Welcome to Facing East, a hidden gem located in the heart of Bellevue, Washington, that serves up authentic Taiwanese and Chinese delicacies. Nestled on Bel-Red Rd, this charming eatery has become a staple for those seeking a taste of flavorful and comforting Asian cuisine. While Facing East has transitioned from a sit-down restaurant to a convenient takeout spot, its commitment to quality remains unwavering.
As you step into Facing East, you are greeted by an array of tempting options in their grab-and-go fridge. A standout here is the Sweet Red Bean Soup, delicately stewed with orange peel, offering both warmth and a hint of citrus sweetness. If you’re in the mood for something refreshing, try the Mango Sago, a delightful dessert that perfectly blends the tropical flavor of mango with creamy coconut milk.
For those craving a classic, the Milk Tea with Tapioca is an absolute must. This beloved beverage features rich, black milk tea paired with chewy tapioca pearls, creating a smooth and creamy texture that will transport your taste buds straight to Taiwan. If savory sides pique your interest, the Pickled Cucumber and Golden Kimchi provide a crisp and tangy contrast that enhances any meal.
The main dishes are equally impressive. Customers rave about the spiced roast pork stew, which not only boasts generous portions but also a delightful flavor that lingers in every bite. Diners have noted that for under $10, this satisfying dish is both a bargain and a testament to the quality that Facing East stands for. There’s also the Five Spice Chicken, which is fried to perfection, crispy on the outside and juicy within—a dish that truly embodies the essence of Taiwanese comfort food.
Moreover, if you're feeling adventurous, don't miss out on trying the Pork Hock, which many have mentioned can easily serve two, making it an excellent choice for sharing. The careful balance of flavors comes together in each dish with the spirit of traditional cuisine and innovative flair.
Overall, Facing East not only showcases the rich culinary heritage of Taiwanese and Chinese cuisines but also fosters a warm community atmosphere, even in a pickup-only format. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick lunch or picking up dinner for the family, every visit promises a delightful feast that captures the essence of home-cooked flavors. So, grab your favorite beverage, choose your sides wisely, and dive into a meal that embodies the rich textures and flavors of East Asian cuisine!
Even tho this place has changed, their food quality hasn't. Would definitely recommend getting the pork hock, it's huge for the price, toke me two days to finish it, and it was very tasty too~
My go-to for Taiwanese takeout. Food is always fresh and flavorful and the prices are reasonable. They've been around for so long you know they can be trusted. Not the same experience after going from sit down store front to pickup only. But the food is delicious regardless so doesn't matter.
I was having my windshield replaced next door and decided to walk down to Facing East for lunch. I couldn't believe that the large spiced roast pork stew was under $10. I think it's important to point out that it was well spiced, it was not spicy (caveat I like a lot of spice). First bite was delicious, but needed some chili crisp to amp up the heat a little. The order came out quick, the pork was precisely as described in the menu, and for under $10 a real bargain.
Facing East makes good food that's just about great. As of June 2024 they operate as a take out only location in a semi industrial strip. There's only a couple of tables outside their door, and those tables only seat two people. The popular dish is the pork hamburger using sweet pork and a bao bun. It's good, but there's brown sugar literally burying the pork and dusted everywhere in the container - it's too sweet. The also popular five spice chicken is fantastic! It's perfectly fried, juicy, and a delightful order that just needs a proper dipping sauce to set it over the top. The simple noodles with soy sauce is a pleasant but forgettable meal. Try some of the pre packaged meals near their counter for good value purchases. When you order they say they'll text me, but somehow they forgot to do that for me. I'd return but try new items.
One of the best pork burgers. All the crunchy little nuts and sauces that they put on. It just gives it a burst of amazing flavor. They have lots of other great dishes, but that one just melts in my mouth. I miss being able to sit at the restaurant, but the takeout is still a nice option. They also have some fun items in the cold area including juices, and desserts.
We haven't been to Facing East since before COVID and we learned that they changed location and only do take-out now. We ordered several dishes and most of them were tasty: large spiced Pork over rice, five spiced chicken, five spiced beef shank (cold dish), pork chop over rice, and Hakka style chow fun. The beef shank cold dish was just ok, and the beef was too chewy for us. Pork chop was a little hard and overcooked. Other than that, we loved the rest, especially the five spiced chicken (which I forgot to take a picture of, sigh!). The Hakka style chow fun was also delicious, perfectly cooked. We will come back for more take out for sure.
